S.O.S. Standing On Service
Vote Brandi D. Pikes
for the American Bar Association's
Young Lawyers Division Clerk the choice
that will continue to
Stand On Service.

Why am I running for ABA YLD Clerk ?
"To whom much is given much is required"
After careful consideration and prayer, I have decided to run for ABA YLD Assembly Clerk. As a Division, our vision, is “The Young Lawyers Division is the national home for the new and young attorney, providing members tools to navigate the early years of a career.” The Assembly is the highest policy-making body within the Young Lawyers Division of the American Bar Association. It is imperative that the Assembly considers and adopts policies that respond to the current concerns of young lawyers and helps young lawyers navigate the early years of their career by promoting the rule of law, encouraging advocacy, and maintaining the highest standard of civility.
Traditionally, SOS is the internationally recognized symbol for distress meaning someone needs help and a response immediately. The foundation for my platform is Standing on Service (S.O.S). I’m running for Clerk because I have a desire to ensure that our Assembly responds with immediacy to the SOSs young lawyers are sending on their own behalf and in an effort to advance change in the legal profession. If fortunate enough to earn your vote and become the YLD Assembly Clerk, I will, by virtue of the office ascend to serve as Speaker the following year.
I have worked across the Division and stood on service. I have served as a member of the YLD Cabinet and Council for 3 years as a Director. Currently, I am the Director of the Professional Development Team.
As the Director of Pro Bono and Public Service, I led the Young Lawyers Division Public Service Project during the 2023-2024 bar year. With a small but mighty team and with the help of local and state affiliates, we were able to mobilize young lawyers at our in-person meetings in Kentucky, Nebraska, and Illinois to serve and respond to the needs of children in local communities. Through these efforts, our Division was recognized by the ABA Section Officer Conference (SOC) as the 2024 Meritorious Service Award recipient.
My broad leadership experience across the Division makes me well-suited to lead the principal policy-making body for young lawyers. My experience as a Director and Cabinet leader has exposed me to some of the Division’s key issues which are ripe for future resolutions. Specific to the policy making arm of the Division, I have served as a delegate to the Assembly, member of the Credentials Board, Parliamentarian, Teller, and have advocated on the Assembly floor speaking in favor or in opposition on several resolutions.
Much of my experience in the Division has been rooted in responding to both the short and long-term needs of young lawyers.

As Assembly Clerk, I will Stand On Service by:
-
Cultivating and chairing a Credentials Board that is centered on excellence, accessibility, and inclusion;
-
Educating new and returning delegates on how to draft a resolution via drafting sessions and educating first time attendees on the Assembly process;
-
Ensuring that the resolutions that come to the floor address young lawyers’ concerns across all demographics and regions;
-
Encouraging young lawyers to engage with one another in conversation and in spirited debates;
-
Establishing protocols that promote accessibility for all lawyers during Assembly; and
-
Embracing and supporting the Chair’s initiatives and the Division’s Strategic Plan.
I humbly ask for your vote at the ABA Annual Meeting in August 2025.
Please review my S.O.S. Platform page to learn more about my platform and initiatives that I would like to implement if elected as your Clerk.
